Comics can be an innovative promotional method to support the preventive campaign against tuberculosis. Abstract As a tropical country, Indonesia continues to grapple with the prevalence of tuberculosis. This study conducted by the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia, presented a novel approach to prevent tuberculosis through measures tailored to the socio-cultural context of the population. Specifically, this study assessed how effective the use of tuberculosis comics is as an educational tool to inform junior high school students about tuberculosis. This research was quasi-experimental, with a one-group pre-test-post-test design. Seventy junior high school students in Dukun District, Gresik, Indonesia participated in this study. Each participant received a questionnaire consisting of ten questions about tuberculosis. Afterward, tuberculosis education was shared through comics. The post-test was carried out using the same questions as the pre-test. The data were analyzed using the R Program for Windows, version 4.1.3 (Auckland University, New Zealand). The analysis revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results (p < 0.0001). As indicated by the data, comics proved to be an effective method of educating people about infectious diseases, specifically tuberculosis. Here, we introduce an educational tool designed to revitalize the educational method for disseminating knowledge about infectious diseases. Ultimately, comics can increase students' interest in learning about tuberculosis, including its etiology, prevention, and treatment strategies.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) is an accreditation system involving assessment of a person's recognition of experience through formal, informal and non-formal learning. Generally, APEL pro-vides opportunity for individuals to gain access to higher learning institu-tions and gain credits in learning based on experience gained through equivalence checking. Therefore, this study aimed at obtaining feed-back/input on items for nine (9) content learning indicator domains that will be used for the determination of learning content in assessing the equivalence checking between the skills module and the academic module for the APEL process. The nine (9) domains are knowledge (current) in the field; practical skills; social skills & accountability; values, attitudes & professionalism; communication skills, leadership & teamwork; problem solving skills & scientific skills; management skills, entrepreneurship & innovation; information management & lifelong learning; and interdisci-plines. This study uses a quantitative approach which uses questionnaire to get feedback from respondents. A total of 32 respondents comprising lec-turers from seven (7) faculties of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. The data are analysed using Statistical Packages for Social Science 23.0 (SPSS 23.0). The finding of this study found that all the items in the Con-tent Learning Indicator in equivalence checking between skills module and academic module of the APEL process are very appropriate. Improvements are made such as feedback and recommendations provided by respondents.

Comic books can be and are produced mainly for science communication. Comics are more favorable to be read by the students as comics engaged students in reading compared to thick science textbooks. This study explored the role of comics as an aid in teaching elementary school science on the topic of ‘Plant Systems’ using an action research approach. A total of 18 Grade 5 students from one of the elementary schools in Brunei Darussalam participated in the study. A 15-page fully colored comic featuring a leaf fairy character called ‘Nym’ was utilized to teach the students alongside various activities about plants during the intervention lessons. A pre-test was administered prior to the lesson to establish their existing knowledge of the topic, and then a post-test administered after all the intervention lessons were completed.<strong> </strong>The results from the achievement scores analyzed between the pre- and post-tests indicated that the students’ knowledge on ‘Plant Systems’ improved significantly.<strong> </strong>The students were found to be interested, engaged and enthusiastic in the use of comics as revealed from the thematic analysis of the interviews. There are also vast potentials for comics to be used regularly to support learning in science-related classrooms.
