“…In sarcoidosis, the first reported genome-wide microarray analysis of miRNAs obtained from peripheral blood monocytes (PBMCs) identified differential expression of hsa-miR-25, hsa-miR-199a, and hsa-miR-214 compared with controls, and predicted that these target the TGF-b/WNT molecular pathway (23). Subsequently, studies investigating peripheral blood identified dysregulated preselected inflammatory related miRNAs in sarcoidosis compared with controls, with distinct expression profiles linked to sarcoidosis phenotypes (24)(25)(26)(27).…”

“…Differentially expressed miRNAs identified via a next-generation sequencing approach were validated with PCR and resulted in three miRNAs (miR-7-1-3p, miR-32-3p, and miR-211-5p) that were significantly differently expressed compared to controls, and between CS and sarcoidosis, without cardiac involvement. Moreover, miR-32-3p and miR-211-5p) were found to have higher concentrations in the non-CS group compared with the CS group, and miR-7-1-3p was significantly elevated in patients with CS [13]. Another small study by Fujiwara et al was performed, consisting of an exploratory group of serum samples from 5 CS patients, with which genome-wide expression profiling was conducted, yielding 12 differentially expressed candidate miRNAs compared to healthy controls.…”

“…miR-7 is shown to suppress the growth and development of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB-stimulated vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) via targeting EGFR and could be used as a therapeutic regimen against cardiovascular diseases [ 115 ]. miR-7 is thought to serve as a biomarker for coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD) [ 116 ] and cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) [ 117 ].…”
