“…The Narmada and Tapti Rivers flow in these rift valleys. For completeness of the work a brief description of the crustal structure and P -wave velocity distribution along the ThuadaraSindad profile, given by Sridhar (2001); Sridhar and Tewari (2001); and Tewari and Kumar (2003) is presented in the next section.…”

“…Several geological and geophysical studies have been carried out to understand the evolution of NSL and its influence on tectonic framework of central India. These studies include four Deep Seismic Sounding (DSS) profiles namely (I) HirapurMandla, (II) Khajuriakalan-Pulgaon, (III) UjjainMahan, and (IV) Thuadara-Sindad (Kumar et al 2000;Tewari et al 2001;Sridhar and Tewari 2001;Kumar 2002;Mall et al 2002). Locations of these profiles are shown in figure 1.…”

“…The basement depth tends to become shallow towards southeast. Deep seismic sounding (DSS) studies across Narmada-Son lineament mapped Deccan Trap thickness and inferred subtrappean sediments in the Narmada-Tapti region(KAILA, 1988;SRIDHAR and TEWARI, 2001). The present study area falls in between the two DSS profiles along MehmadabadBillimora in the west and Thuadara-Sindad towards the east.…”

“…The results of the seismic profile in the west along the Mehmadabad-Billimora show about 1-km thick Deccan Trap south of Narmada and reveal about 1-km thick Mesozoic sediments below the Deccan Trap. Along the Thuadara-Sindad profile in the east, Deccan Trap is found to be an average 900 m thick and south of Sendhwa up to the Tapti River, the thickness of Mesozoic sediments is around 1.9 km(KAILA, 1988) SRIDHAR and TEWARI (2001). in their reinterpreted seismic results along the Thuadara-Sindad profile delineate a graben between the rivers Narmada and Tapti.…”

“…Pleistocene sedimentary terraces in SNF zone are tilted 20-25 ∘ in the tract Hardi-Jabalpur and are also displaced 10-15 m near Navagram [15]. The seismic structure and existence of sedimentary basin of SONATA zone is interpreted by Murty et al [16] and Kumar et al [17] using 2D crustal seismic velocity models and 2D gravity modeling by Mishra, [18], Verma and Banerjee [19], Sridhar and Tewari, [20] and Mishra et al [21]. The high Bouguer gravity anomaly between Jabalpur and Mandla suggests localized uplift of SNSF and the presence of a magmatic body at different depths.…”
