“…[60] In the case of the exfoliation of zirconium organophosphonate, it has been reported that the use of shear forces enables to obtain particles with larger lateral dimensions than for the ones obtained by ultrasound treatment, even though both methods lead to a reduction of the lateral size compared to the ones observed in the bulk. [61] Such a lateral size reduction has also been observed in the case of "soft" exfoliation, by swelling in organic solvents; the key parameter to control the lateral fracturing being the exfoliation time. [35,65] In our case, the shear rate governs the exfoliation efficiency and fracturing.…”

“…Yet, despite its ability to exfoliate in a large scale and even more efficiently than sonication, [61] to our knowledge, this method has very rarely been used for the exfoliation of materials other than graphene and dichalcogenides, [18] and never for the exfoliation of 2D-oxides with perovskite structure.…”

“…43 The topology of TiO 2 P25 surface was monitored on an atomic force microscope Dimension Icon (Bruker, Germany) in PeakForce Quantitative Nanoscale Mechanical mode using ScanAsyst-Air tips (k = 0.4 N/m) according to the described procedure. 44 TiO 2 P25 Dispersion Techniques TiO 2 P25 stock solutions (10 mg.mL −1 ) were prepared in distilled water. Different techniques were used to disperse TiO 2 P25, ie (1) manual shaking by hand in a tube, (2) sonication using ultrasonic probe UP400S, 400 W, 24 kHz (Hielscher Ultrasonics GmbH, Germany), equipped with titanium sonotrode H14 (14 mm in diameter) with the application of half of the cycle and maximal power, (3) FisherBrand FB15053H ultrasonic bath, 560 W (Fisher Scientific, UK), and (4) Ultra-turrax® disperser T10 (IKA-Werke GmbH & Co. KG, Germany) equipped with a dispersion tool (S 10 D-7 G-KS-65) at 13,000 rpm.…”

“…Exfoliation is an extreme case of intercalation in which the individual layers are separated sufficiently to disturb the layered structure. This is commonly required when the layers need to be separated into individual sheets, or few-layer flakes. Among the layered materials, exfoliated ZrP lists at the top due to its applications such as drug delivery, catalysis, heavy metal removal, and composite formation.…”
