Exercise Modalities and Endothelial Function: A Systematic Review and Dose–Response Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Abstract: All exercise modalities improve EF significantly and there was a significant, positive relationship between aerobic exercise intensity and EF. Greater frequency, rather than intensity, of resistance exercise training enhanced EF.

“…It is well known that regular aerobic exercise improves the quality of life of patients with CF through increasing expectoration of the sputum and ameliorating the decline in lung function (29,35). Exercise also enhances NO bioavailability (3,4,9). In the present study a positive correlation between the PORH-to-LTH ratio and exercise capacity suggests that a greater exercise capacity positively impacts microvascular function in CF.…”

“…Una reciente revisión concluyó que tanto el ejercicio aeróbico como de fuerza mejoran la función endotelial 32 . Se han descrito como mecanismos responsables del efecto hipotensor, la reducción de la resistencia vascular periférica 33 , la angiogénesis 34 , el estrés por roce, y la producción de óxido nítrico 11 .…”

However, aerobic training improves endothelial function 34,35) and increases functional sympatholysis 17) . In addition, Mortensen et al reported that functional sympatholysis is preserved in physically active older individuals 36) .…”
