Exercise-Mediated Browning of White Adipose Tissue: Its Significance, Mechanism and Effectiveness

Abstract: As a metabolic organ, adipose tissue plays an important role in regulating metabolism. In adults, most adipose tissue is white adipose tissue (WAT), and excessive expansion of WAT will lead to obesity. It is worth noting that exercise can reduce the fat mass. There is also a lot of evidence that exercise can promote the browning of WAT, which is beneficial for metabolic homeostasis. Multiple factors, including reactive oxygen species (ROS), metabolites, nervous system, exerkines and lipolysis can facilitate ex… Show more

“…In addition, a strong body of evidence suggests that mechanical stress stimulation directly induced by exercise can affect the osteogenic and lipogenic differentiation processes of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) ( 34 ). Mechanical loading has a positive effect on osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, mainly by promoting osteogenic differentiation and inhibiting lipogenic differentiation, which may also be one of the main reasons for the prevention of OP by BDJ exercise.…”

“…BDJ exercise is a full-body exercise, and all forms of BDJ exercise combine rhythmic movements or fixed body postures with deep breathing techniques to reduce the appearance of pain, which may be closely related to the matching of breathing rate. Some studies have pointed out that during the exercise, the spine, especially the neck, can perform movements such as twisting, extension and forward flexion, which can fully relax the muscles of the neck and lower limbs, reduce pain-causing stimulation, and improve pain behavior and physical activity tolerance ( 34 ).…”

“…In obesity, regular physical activity reduces adipose tissue and weight and improves fat browning by increasing UCP1 ( Reisi et al, 2016 ; Mu et al, 2021 ). During exercise, triacylglycerols, an adipose tissue energy metabolite, are hydrolyzed into free fatty acids (FA), which are then released into the circulation to empower the muscle to function ( Mika et al, 2019 ).…”

“…It is characterized by the existence of steatosis in over 5 % of hepatocytes and results in a wide range of metabolic alterations from hepatic lipotoxicity and inflammation to more severe nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) with striking fibrosis in liver [5][6][7][8]. Exercise is a currently effective strategy to treat NAFLD [6,[9][10][11][12][13]. However, the underlying mechanisms of the positive effects of exercise on the alleviation of NAFLD are still incompletely understood.…”
