“…

The difference in lipid content of the adrenals from the two strains of rats is of interest. Accordingly, over 20 liters of bile were assiduously collected by duodenal intubation of women who were in the last trimester of pregnancy.Bioassay values for individual specimens of bile were found to be in line with those previously reported by Cantarow et al (1943). Deane, Shaw and Greep ('48) have discussed the effect of stress on the adrenal gland, and have suggested that during mild stress the lipid and ketosteroid content of the cells increases, whereas in severe stress the discharge of droplets exceeds their rate of formation and the cellular content is diminished.

“…In a series of papers during the 1950's, Govindachari et al (1)(2)(3)(4)(5) described the isolation, structure, and synthesis of two alkaloids, tylophorine and tylophorinine, present in the Indian plant Tylophora indica. These alkaloids are built up of a dibenzolf,h]-pyrrolo[ 1,261isoquinoline skeleton.…”

“…The ability of bile salts to enhance the water solubility of steroid hormones was noted as early as 1944 by Cantarow et al (1). Since that time, micellar solubilization of steroids has been studied extensively by Ekwall (2) and Sjoblom (3).…”

“…Cantarow, Paschkis, Rakoff and their collaborators (67,68,69,70) have postulated the existence of a very interesting mechanism in the metabolism of estrogens. They have presented evidence to show the existence of an entero-hepatic circulation similar to that which exists with the bile salts.…”
