Excited Hyperon of Mass 1680 MeV

Abstract: We have analyzed 370 000 pictures taken in the 30-inch hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to the 5.5-GeV/c separated K~ beam 1 at the Argonne zero-gradient synchrotron (ZGS). Light particle contamination in the beam was £5% when calculated from a r scan of the film. A Cerenkov counter operated during the exposure indicated the same high purity. About 5000 two-prong events with an associated A decay have been found. After kinematic analysis, these yielded 328 fits to the final state A77 + TT"" and 89 fits to 2°77 … Show more

“…In several years parity doubling among some nucleon resonances was indeed observed experimentally. An "explosion" of these observations happened in 1967 (see, e.g., [19][20][21][22][23]). Barger and Cline [24,25] immediately attributed the phenomenon to a manifestation of the MacDowell symmetry.…”

“…The same conclusion may be reached from experiments with neutrino and antineutrino beams on protons [36,37] showing that in the limit of zero energy transfer. The simplest assumption these remarks can lead us to is…”

“…The Y*(1715) is a new resonance observed by DERRICK et al 13 and by COLLEV et al ~* in K-p reactions. In both of these experiments, this resonance is seen as a strong enhancement in the An + system, the Sn/An ratio being small.…”
