Example-Based Color Transformation of Image and Video Using Basic Color Categories

Abstract: Color transformation is the most effective method to improve the mood of an image, because color has a large influence in forming the mood. However, conventional color transformation tools have a tradeoff between the quality of the resultant image and the amount of manual operation. To achieve a more detailed and natural result with less labor, we previously suggested a method that performs an example-based color stylization of images using perceptual color categories. In this paper, we extend this method to m… Show more

“…It restricts the color transfer to a specific color category according to a given color. To categorize the colors, the Basic Color Terms (BCTs), which are black, white, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, purple, pink, orange, and gray, are adopted [11], [12]. A color-naming segmentation experiment was conducted for color categorization.…”

“…Yet, since a global color transfer method based on pixelwise matching lacks spatial information, significant spatial Copyright c 2015 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers artifacts are produced, such as local color distortion and gradient differences. Thus, Chang proposed an example-based color transfer method, which transfers color using linear mapping based on a basic convex hull in each color category [11], [12]. However, the color transfer is restricted to individual color categories.…”

“…By transferring means and standard deviations in backgrounds from reference view to current view, the corrected result for each frame in current view is described as [14] ref , y) is color value of current view in (x, y) and I i cour (x, y) is its corresponding corrected color value. From the mentioned above, the processing of proposed coding-oriented multi-view video color correction method as illustrated in Fig.2, which can be carried out by the following steps:…”
