RESUMEN:Internet ha experimentado en los últimos años una evolución exponencial al crecimiento de la sociedad. A la par han ido surgiendo diversos problemas de diferente naturaleza, asociados a distintas herramientas creadas bajo su ala, como son las redes sociales. Uno de esos problemas, común a muchos recursos digitales, es la adicción. Para determinar el grado de adicción o de uso problemático de los jóvenes a Internet Young creó el Internet Addiction Test. La intención de este artículo ha sido validar si dicho instrumento, con las modificaciones oportunas (lingüísticas, culturales y adaptaciones a la herramienta a trabajar) puede medir el grado de adicción a las redes sociales. Para ello y siguiendo las pautas del trabajo de Watters, Keefer, Kloosterman, Summerfeldt y Parker (2013), se ha estudiado si dicha prueba es igualmente válida para medir la adicción a las redes sociales. Para ello se ha realizado un análisis bifactorial exploratorio confirmatorio, a una muestra de N=362 estudiantes de los grados de Educación Infantil, Educación Primaria, Educador Social, Pedagogía y Administración y Dirección de Empresas de la Universidad de Córdoba. El resultado preliminar ha sido positivo, reflejando que dicho recurso puede ser empleado tanto para determinar el grado de adicción a Internet como a las redes sociales.

During the past two decades, Internet addiction (IA) has been the most commonly used term in research into online activities and their influence on the development of behavioral addictions. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of the concept of Internet gaming disorder (IGD), proposed by the American Psychiatric Association, on the scientific literature regarding IA. It presents a bibliometric analysis of the IA literature starting from the time IGD was first proposed, with the objective of observing and comparing the topics that have arisen during this period among the different IA themes researched. The findings demonstrate a steady evolution, particularly regarding publications related to the general aspects of IA: its clinical component, its prevalence and psychometric measures, the growing interest in the contextual factors promoting this addictive behavior, scientific progress in its conceptualization based on existing theoretical models, and neuropsychological studies. Nevertheless, many of the studies (22 %) focus on specific IA behaviors and show heterogeneity among the cyberaddictions, with online gaming (related to IGD) most common, followed by cybersex and social networking. Although research on the general concept of IA continues, investigators have begun to pay attention to the diverse spectrum of specific cyberaddictions and their psychological components.

Generality or Specificity? Examining the Relation between Personality Traits and Mental Health Outcomes Using a Bivariate Bi–factor Latent Change Model

Most previous research has focused on the relationships between specific personality traits and specific facets of mental health. However, in reality most of the Big Five are associated at non‐trivial levels with mental health. To account for this broad correlation, we proposed the ‘barometer hypothesis’, positing that behind both ratings of mental health and personality lies a barometer that indicates one's general feelings of positivity or negativity. To the extent that both the general factors of personality and mental health reflect this same barometer, we would expect them to be correlated. We tested alternative models using data from a large longitudinal panel study that includes two cohorts of participants who were assessed every two years, resulting in parallel 4‐year longitudinal studies. Similar results were obtained across both studies. Supporting the ‘barometer hypothesis’, findings revealed that the optimal model included general latent factors for both personality traits and mental health. Compared to the broad raw pairwise correlations, the bi‐factor latent change models revealed that the relation among levels and changes in the specific factors were substantially reduced when controlling for the general factors. Still, some relations remained relatively unaffected by the inclusion of the general factor. We discuss implications of these findings.
