The purpose of learning a foreign language is communication, which can be through speaking or writing. That is to say, the mastery of a foreign language can be ensured by being able to speak that language. Thus, this paper investigates the impact of self-video recording on the development of students’ speaking skill in an engineering school. To examine the cause/ effect relationship between the two variables, a quasi-experimental study was conducted relying on a pre- and post-tests. Two intact groups were selected and assigned to control and experimental groups. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics including the mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-test, and effect size. The results of the experiment indicated that there is an effect of self-video recording on the development of students’ speaking skill and 6.43% of difference to the treatment. This implies that self-video recording has an effective role in enhancing students’ speaking skill. Therefore, it is recommended to use self-video recording as a teaching practice to improve students’ speaking skill. It is also recommended to use and test other ICT tools to help students to learn foreign languages in general and speaking in particular.

<p><em>The Corona Virus 19 (COVID-19) outbreak has made learning and teaching shifted to online. Some distinct modifications on teaching and learning need to be conducted, especially between those teaching English in rural and urban areas. This study is objected to eliciting teachers’ attitudes towards online learning of those teaching in rural and urban areas in the EFL context. A survey research design was employed to reach the objective with semi-interview and online questionnaires to collect data, distributed to the research subjects of 44 English teachers of secondary schools in rural and urban areas. The questionnaire was analyzed by finding the mean score of each item to determine tendencies, while the interview was analyzed by grouping the ideas into meaningful categories and was narratively described. The results showed significant differences in teachers' perception of teaching online in rural and urban areas, such as motivation, classroom management, technical support, and school and parents' support. It is then suggested that teaching online in rural and urban areas needs to be treated differently, a consideration for English teachers and the Ministry of Education to keep having ideal online learning and teaching.</em></p>

The main goal of this research is to develop learning method which can improve the speaking skills of students at Management Program by implementing video recording tasks. This research is Research and Development (RD) research employing the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) Model. The respondents in this study were 30 students who took part in English I subject of Management Program. The instruments used in this study were speaking evaluation sheet, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The research data was obtained from their responses to the questionnaire given related to the use of video recording tasks to improve the English-speaking skills of the students at Management study program. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that using a task-based approach to video recording can effectively help students improving their speaking skills. This can be shown that fluency, vocabulary, grammatical structure and pronunciation have P value lower than 0,05, meaning that those variables significantly support the use of video recording task to improve students speaking skills. Besides, students express their pleasure and positive perception of the method. In conclusion, the use of task-based video recording methods can effectively help students improve their oral skills, not only for exams, but also for their real life and future needs. Additionally, students express their pleasant and positive views on this method. Keywords: English Language, Speaking Skill, Video Recording Task
