Examining construct and predictive validity of the Health-IT Usability Evaluation Scale: confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling results

Abstract: The results of CFA and SEM provide additional evidence for the construct and predictive validity of Health-ITUES. The customizability of Health-ITUES has the potential to support comparisons at the construct level, while allowing variation at the item level. We also illustrate application of Health-ITUES across stages of system development.

“…Usability is an important issue for telemedicine systems, as it is one of the most contributing factors to their success [23]. If usability is not considered, m-health could introduce unintended, negative consequences, such as increased medical errors and problems with communication between healthcare providers [37]. Systematically adopting usability engineering in the development of m-health systems can minimize the number of user errors that may lead to the wrong diagnosis and consequently harm patients [22,23].…”

“…The factorial validity and internal consistency of the Health-ITUES was demonstrated through an exploratory factor analysis [ 25 ]. The development of the Health-ITUES was further advanced through a confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to demonstrate its construct validity and predictive validity [ 26 ]. Early development and valuation of the Health-ITUES was conducted using a Web-based communication system that supported nurse staffing and scheduling.…”

“…13 , 56 Feasibility, usability and satisfaction ratings will be measured from modified health-iTUES, which was originally validated by authors to measure technology usability, but has further been validated to be used as a customisable technology survey. 57 Means and SD will be calculated for all continuous variables and measures at each time point. Feasibility and acceptability analyses for aim 1 are largely descriptive, as we will be assessing participation rates and percentages of eligible men and which recruitment methods were the most effective.…”
