Determination of the Factors Affecting Students’ Science Achievement Level in Turkey and Singapore: An Application of Quantile Regression Mixture Model

In the last decade, the usage of advanced statistical models is growing rapidly in many different disciplines. However, the Quantile Regression Mixture Model (QRMIX), which is a developed approach of the Finite Mixture Model (FMM), is an applicable new method in the educational literature. The aim of the proposed study was to determine factors affecting students' science achievement using the QRMIX approach. To reach this aim, data of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey, which has been conducted by the Organization Economic for Co-Operation and Development (OECD) every 3 years, was used. Dataset used in the research is composed of 6,115 students from Singapore, which is the top-performer country among the participant countries, and 5,895 students from Turkey. The results showed that the factors affecting students' science achievement and its importance on the achievement differentiated according to the achievement levels of the students. In conclusion, it was revealed that Turkish students with the lowest science achievement level should be supported with home possessions, perceived feedback, and environmental awareness and Singaporean students with the lowest achievement level should be supported with perceived feedback, enjoyment of science, and epistemological beliefs.

Nexus Between Environmental Quality And Economic Sustainability: Evidence From Pakistan Based On Time Series Data

The global ecological and environmental situation is deteriorating due to fuel consumption to produce energy and exploitation of natural resources to adjust to the growing population and their increasing demand. Pakistan's ecological quality is steadily declining because more and more forest land is exploited for industrial and residential development. A time series dataset from 1991 to 2021, culled from the World Development Index, is used to evaluate the impact of economic growth, capital stock, population growth rate, and energy use on Pakistan's environmental quality. The study is focused on exploring the long-and short-term affiliation among the variables and, later, in finding out the shock wave influencing the underline variables. The Johansen reported that a one percent increase in the population, economic development, and capital reduces the environmental quality by 0.04%, 2.28 %, and 2.17 %, respectively. However, the Local Projection with Impulse Response reported that one standard deviation shock of concerned variables positively and significantly affects the future environmental quality. It is the utmost responsibility of the government on the legislative forum to design the policy to mitigate environmental damages. The government should promote green energy/ renewable resources to reduce fossil fuel utilization.

<p style="text-align: justify;">In this article we present research on Slovenian primary school teachers' opinion about the interdisciplinary approach between fine art and science education. With the help of questionnaires, interviews, and analysis of lesson plans, we determined how primary school teachers use this type of interdisciplinary approach, how often and what their views are. We included 138 primary school teachers from every region in Slovenia. It turned out that primary school teachers in Slovenia use an interdisciplinary approach between fine art and science teaching quite often and consider it useful to achieve different aspects of pupils' development. The study revealed that most teachers find it difficult to consider the educational goals of both fields (fine art, science). They often use the connection between the subjects only on an associative level - they only mention the teaching content of one subject quickly and carelessly, without making meaningful connections and without achieving the goals of both subjects. Content taught in this way cannot be considered a cross-curricular approach in the subject sense.</p>
