Examination and implementation for direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor with space vector modulation

Abstract: This study investigates the direct torque control strategy of permanent magnet synchronous motor with the space vector modulation, on account of large torque fluctuation and varied switching frequency of classic direct torque control strategy. The relationship among the terminal control voltages and the torque and stator flux of the permanent magnet synchronous motor is derived through the dynamic model of motor. Accordingly, the torque and the flux closed-loop feedback control structure are established, where… Show more

“…The combination between the space vector modulation (SVM) technique and the DTC (SVM-DTC) has been considered as a helpful solution for overcoming the conventional DTC 1 performance. 4,5 Unlike the conventional DTC, the SVM-DTC reduces the ripples and the harmonics distortions, and it ensures an operation with a fixed switching frequency. 6 Nevertheless, the SVM-DTC is usually based on a proportional integral (PI) controller for controlling the rotor speed of an induction motor (IM) drive.…”

“…The integration of the space vector modulation (SVM) instead of the use of a lookup switching table in the DTC control scheme was a very helpful solution. 2,3 SVM offers fixed switching frequency, higher DC voltage utilization ratio and lower harmonics distortion. 4 Therefore, it provides reduced ripples and lower switching losses, unlike conventional DTC.…”
