“…Proposed approach is simulated using microscopic simulator VISSIM and result shows that waiting time of emergency vehicle is very much reduced at the same time negative impact of preemption on general traffic is significantly reduced. An approach to minimize average waiting time of emergency and non-emergency vehicle is presented by A. Khan et al [12]. In the proposed approach, emergency vehicle broadcasts emergency priority request periodically.…”

“…We have categorized these approaches in two categories namely Sensor based sensing and Message based sensing. Some of the TLC mechanisms [9], [11], [12], [15] discussed here uses different on-road detectors like inductive loop, acoustic sensor, camera, force resistive sensor, magnetic sensor and ultrasonic sensor for detection of EV and few of these sensors are also used for traffic density calculations. However, the challenge lies with these sensors is its deployment and maintenance.…”

“…If R msg is detected, alarm message is generated, acknowledgment is sent back to the client device and R msg is printed on screen. The microcontroller in the server device utilizes the Haversine formula [30] to determine the distance between the client device and server. This process is defined by the following Equation (1):…”

“…In the traffic‐responsive control scheme, it uses traffic information of sensors located at intersections to determine how to control traffic light, such as extending or terminating the green phase. In [19], Khan et al constructed a platform and EVP‐STC protocol, which can effectively reduce the delay of emergency vehicles. Compared with the fixed‐timed controller, traffic‐responsive control scheme could decrease the average waiting time of vehicles and maximise the traffic throughput.…”
