This study examines how eco‐innovations activities are disclosed within sustainability reporting of European large companies and provides one of the first studies on the intersection of both fields. To achieve such goal, the research was carried out based on the qualitative content analysis of the sustainability reports of the European companies selected on their ranking of research and development expenditure and Dow Jones Sustainability Index. We investigated if and how eco‐innovations activities were contemplated and communicated. The findings show a generalized lack of direct reference to the term eco‐innovation. Analysis of the reports showed that companies disclosed information on different types of eco‐innovation, albeit not referring to them explicitly as eco‐innovations. Benefits of using eco‐innovation mentioning in sustainable reports are also discussed and guidelines are given how to report on eco‐innovation in such documents.

Environmentally Responsible Behavior and Sustainability Policy Adoption in Green Public Procurement

Research has identified that there is a paucity of reviews covering green public procurement (GPP) in terms of environmentally responsible behavior and sustainability policy adoption. Using, comprehensively, the most recent (2017–2020) and relevant (Web of Science- and Scopus-indexed) empirical sources, our paper fills the gap in the literature by focusing on the main developing streams of research, that is: How GPP drives the circular economy; GPP of construction and building materials; environmental and supply chain management measures in GPP; the procurement of sustainable innovation; environmental policy objectives of GPP as regards energy, pollution, carbon footprint, and climate change; GPP as an environmental policy mechanism for production and use of sustainable goods and services; and GPP as an integral component of sustainable development and performance. Further investigations can explore hot topics related to the role of GPP in the automated algorithmic decision-making processes taking place in data-driven smart sustainable cities because the harnessing, among other things, of sensing and computing technologies, network connectivity systems, and the Cognitive Internet of Things will fulfill the incessant exigencies of public administration.

Eco-innovations comprise new or modified processes, techniques, practices, systems and products allowing environmental harms to be avoided or reduced. They are employed in order for specific social and environmental objectives to be achieved, hence their environmental, social, and institutional significance relating to the achievement of long-term sustainable growth patterns. As a consequence, eco-innovation has great amount of focus from many countries. Adding to the current literature which focuses mainly on the drivers and effects of eco-innovation in the context of developed and developing countries, this paper tries to find an answer to the question about the absolute β-convergence of eco-innovation. We also consider the spillover effects in the analyses. Our sample consists of 38 countries and relates to the years 2012−2017. We apply the spatial panel models to verify the research hypotheses. The results confirm that there is the absolute β-convergence in the sample countries. Moreover, we find evidence of positive spillovers of eco-innovation.
