Evolutionary rate variation among genes involved in galactomannan biosynthesis in Coffea canephora

Abstract: The endosperm cell walls of mature coffee seeds accumulate large amounts of mannan storage polysaccharides, which serve as nutrient reserve for embryo and contribute to beverage quality. Our study investigated the evolutionary patterns of key galactomannan (GM) biosynthesis genes using dN/dS ratio, synteny, and phylogenetic analysis and detected heterogeneity in rate of evolution among gene copies. Selection ratio index revealed evidence of positive selection in the branch editing gene Coffea canephora alpha (… Show more

“…This result was consistent with the number of mutation sites they contained. Interestingly, the values of π and Tajima's D showed opposite trends, compared with CSS (Tajima's D mean = 0.208, median = 0.143, and std = 0.838), and higher Tajima's D in CSA (mean = 0.436, median = 0.421, and At the same time, the ratio of non-synonymous and synonymous mutations (dN/dS = ω) was calculated to explore the evolutionary direction of genes (Xanthopoulou et al, 2019;Ogutu et al, 2020). When ω > 1, 14,594 and 14,865 genes were selected from CSS and CSA subgroups, respectively.…”

“…e molecular biology methods category counts for 2.4% of the primary articles, which involve techniques to explore the molecular basis of biological activity in relation to coffee quality; how molecules control cells, their processes and characteristics, and activity and growth, e.g., the study of key galactomannan biosynthesis genes responsible for the accumulation of mannan storage polysaccharides on mature coffee seeds contributing to beverage quality [54].…”
