We study the ground state properties, potential energy curves and potential energy surfaces of the superheavy nucleus 270 Hs by using the multidimensionally-constrained relativistic mean-field model with the effective interaction PC-PK1. The binding energy, size and shape as well as single particle shell structure corresponding to the ground state of this nucleus are obtained. 270 Hs is well deformed and exhibits deformed doubly magic feature in the single neutron and proton level schemes. One-dimensional potential energy curves and two-dimensional potential energy surfaces are calculated for 270 Hs with various spatial symmetries imposed. We investigate in detail the effects of the reflection asymmetric and triaxial distortions on the fission barrier and fission path of 270 Hs. When the axial symmetry is imposed, the reflection symmetric and reflection asymmetric fission barriers both show a double-hump structure and the former is higher. However, when triaxial shapes are allowed the reflection symmetric barrier is lowered very much and then the reflection symmetric fission path becomes favorable. Time-optimal control of a dissipative qubit

A formalism based on Pontryagin's maximum principle is applied to determine the time-optimal protocol that drives a general initial state to a target state by a Hamiltonian with limited control, i.e., there is a single control field with bounded amplitude. The coupling between the bath and the qubit is modeled by a Lindblad master equation. Dissipation typically drives the system to the maximally mixed state, consequently there generally exists an optimal evolution time beyond which the decoherence prevents the system from getting closer to the target state. For some specific dissipation channel, however, the optimal control can keep the system from the maximum entropy state for infinitely long. The conditions under which this specific situation arises are discussed in detail. The numerical procedure to construct the time-optimal protocol is described. In particular, the formalism adopted here can efficiently evaluate the time-dependent singular control which turns out to be crucial in controlling either an isolated or a dissipative qubit.

Analytical description of shape transition in nuclear alternating parity bands

Angular momentum dependences of the parity splitting and electric dipole transitions in the alternating parity bands of heavy nuclei have been analyzed. It is shown that these dependences can be treated in a universal way with a single parameter of critical angular momentum, which characterizes phase transition from octupole vibrations to the stable octupole deformation. Using the simple but useful model of axially-symmetric reflection-asymmetric mode, the analytical expression for the parity splitting and electric dipole transitional moment have been obtained. The results obtained are in a good agreement with the experimental data for various isotopes of Ra, Th, U, and Pu.
