Eventration of the Diaphragm

Abstract: ED is the abnormal elevation of the diaphragm as a result of paralysis or aplasia of the muscular fibres. The abnormally elevated diaphragm may compress the ipsilateral lung, and with respiratory effort the mediastinum may shift towards the normal side. Therefore, diaphragmatic plication is performed to restore normal pulmonary parenchymal volume by replacing the diaphragm in its normal location. After plication, there was immediate remission of symptoms in most patients and decreasing symptoms were observed f… Show more

“…However, it has been known as a condition where the diaphragmatic muscle is malpositioned with subtotal diaphragmatic tears that do not occur at the central tendon or in the pericaval area because the fibrous tissue is stronger than the muscular portion of the diaphragm [4]. In addition, on radiographs, diaphragmatic eventration seems not to have a pericaval pattern, but rather a caudoventral mediastinal mass pattern [3] or entire hemidiaphragm displacement [17] that definitely differs from caval foramen hernia.…”

“…The CDE may easily be missed or misdiagnosed. Early diagnosis and repair of the diaphragm can prevent gastrointestinal disorders, reduce recurrent respiratory tract infections, and improve quality of life [4,5]. The purpose of this study was to summarize the clinical manifestations, physical examination findings, and radiological features of children with CDE in order to identify the opportunities to improve the diagnostic and treatment aspects and to evaluate the long-term outcomes of diaphragmatic plication.…”

“…Diyafram evantrasyonunda tedavi her zaman gerekmeyebilir.
