Streszczenie: Cel -Celem artykułu jest analiza wpływu zmian credit ratingów banków na kursy akcji. Metodologia badania -Do badania wykorzystano długoterminowe credit ratingi banków europejskich nadawane przez Standard & Poor's Investor Service w latach 1980-2015. Jako zmienną zależną obrano stopy zwrotu z akcji. Analizę przeprowadzono przy wykorzystaniu metody event study. Wynik -Przeprowadzone badanie sugeruje istotny wpływ spadku credit ratingu na kursy akcji. Wzrost not ratingowych słabiej oddziałuje na ceny. Oryginalność/wartość -Analizę przeprowadzono dla wszystkich banków krajów europejskich, dla długiego horyzontu czasowego. słowa kluczowe: credit rating, event study, stopa zwrotu wprowadzenie Ostatni kryzys finansowy pozwolił na dostrzeżenie niezwykle istotnej roli agencji ratingowych w funkcjonowaniu systemu finansowego, które mają na celu redukcję asymetrii ryzyka pomiędzy inwestorem a emitentem. Istnieje cały szereg agencji ratingowych, jednak tylko trzy z nich pełnią kluczową rolę w analizie zachowań rynku, określane jako Wielka Trójka, a należą do nich: Standard & Poor's, Moody's i Fitch Inwestors Service. Dotychczas prowadzone badania skupiają się na trzech głównych nurtach. Pierwszym z nich jest analiza determinant mogących wpływać na credit rating (Cantor, Parker, 1996; Haque i in., 1996 Haque i in., , 1997Reisen, von Maltzan, 1999;Jutter, McCarthy, 2000; Bathia, 2002; Borenszstein, Panizza, 2006;Chodnicka, Jaworski, 2014;Chodnicka, 2015). Druga grupa badań odnosi się do metodologii zarządzania agencjami ratingowymi (Mathis, McAndrews, Rochet, 2009;Bongaerts, Cremers, Goetzmann, 2012; Kisgen, Strahan, 2012; Ellul, Jotikasthira, Lundblad, 2012;Opp, 2013;Pagano, Volpin, 2010;Bongaerts, 2014). Trzecia natomiast odnosi się do wpływu credit ratingów na funkcjonowanie rynku finansowego. Ta ostatnia grupa badań stała się przedmiotem analizy niniejszego artykułu.
