Evaluation of the Repeatability and the Reproducibility of AL-Scan Measurements Obtained by Residents

Abstract: Purpose. To assess the repeatability and reproducibility of ocular biometry and intraocular lens (IOL) power measurements obtained by ophthalmology residents using an AL-Scan device, a novel optical biometer. Methods. Two ophthalmology residents were instructed regarding the AL-Scan device. Both performed ocular biometry and IOL power measurements using AL-Scan, three times on each of 128 eyes, independently of one another. Corneal keratometry readings, horizontal iris width, central corneal thickness, anterio… Show more

“…Moreover, the ICC values were higher than those in the study by Kola et al . and the TRT values were less than that in our previous study 9 , 15 . The study by Chen et al 25 , Huang et al 26 , and Savini et al 27 discovered that the ICC for the rotating Scheimpflug imaging was similar to the current study.…”

“…Repeatability and reproducibility of CD and PD were high in children, thereby confirming the results previously reported with the same biometer by Kola et al . in adult patients 9 . The study revealed that the agreement for CD was not satisfactory, since the 95% LoA was between −1.10 and 0.26 mm.…”

“…The AL Scan is an optical biometer that measures the distance between the anterior surface of the cornea and the retinal pigment epithelium with a superior accuracy compared to the A-scan ultrasound. Since the AL Scan is based on the principle of partial coherence interferometry, the results were not affected by silicone oil, and there was good agreement between the AL Scan and IOLMaster in measuring the AL [3][4][5]. Thus, we justify the use of Pentacam for measuring corneal astigmatism and ACD and AL Scan for measuring AL.…”

“…18 Kola ve ark., yapmış oldukları başka bir çalışmada, ölçümü yapan kişilerden bağımsız olarak AL-Scan ile alınan tüm biyometrik ölçüm-lerin tekrarlanabilirliği ve güvenirliliğinin yük-sek olduğunu bildirmişlerdir. 19 Yağcı ve ark. ise keratokonus hastalarında AL-Scan ölçümlerinin güvenilir ve tekrarlanabilir olduğunu bildirmiş-lerdir.…”
