Evaluation of the friction properties of thermally sprayed coatings

Abstract: In this paper, one of the tribological tests for the evaluation of friction properties is introduced. The test, named "Block-on-Ring", (in accordance with the standard ASTM G77) was carried out by the ŠKODA VÝZKUM Ltd. company and realized on renovated apparatus. The brief description of the measurement is as follows: the flat surface of the sample is pressed against the cylindrical surface of the rotating wheel. Arbitrary oil is fed to the materials' contact surface and the increasing temperature can be detec… Show more

“…2). On the basis of previous studies [11,12], test parameters suitable for HVOF coatings were chosen. Al 2 O 3 (212-250 µm size range) abrasive particles were used, 47 m•s -1 circumferential velocity of rotating disc was set, the exposition time was 2 minutes.…”

“…This confirmed that this addition can greatly improve the performance of WC-10Co-4Cr sprayed coatings. Michaela et al [13]found that adhesive-cohesive strength influences (melting and localized alloying of the contact surfaces between particles and between the substrate and adjoining particles, and the coating adhesive-cohesive behavior depends on two spray parameters: the flame temperature and particles kinetic energy by using high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) and Flame spray. Lampke et al [14]found that thermally sprayed (flame spray, arc spraying, plasma-electrolytic) of alumina coatings are widely used in a range of industrial applications to improve wear and erosion resistance, corrosion protection and thermal insulation of metallic surfaces.…”
