ZnO ceramic samples as pellets have been prepared and doped with (1, 2.5, 5, 10 wt%) of MgO powder, sintering at 1300˚C, these samples have been treated with laser at 400 J/cm 2 . X-ray diffraction spectra of the samples show some changes in the X-ray parameters, where d-spacing and the intensities of the peaks are changed. FWMH of all the samples was altered due to MgO dopant and the laser influence microstructure was affected by the laser treatment, also, the texture coefficient is affected.
In this research B 4 C powder have been coated with yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (YTZP) (ZrO 2 -6wt% Y 2 O 3 ) by using sol-gel method in order to obtain on composite powder (B 4 C core/ YTZP shell, 1/1 wt%). Zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl 2 .8H 2 O) and yttrium nitrate (Y(NO 3 ) 3 .6H 2 O) were used as the precursors for synthesis of the YTZP compound. The coated B 4 C powder was then used as additive powder to B 4 C. It was mixed with different percentages for making ceramic-ceramic composite samples. The YTZP weight percentages added to the B 4 C were in the range (0-12.5) wt%. The samples sintered by using spark plasma sintering technique at 1800 and 1900°C for 5 min. Density and mechanical properties (Vickers microhardness, fracturetoughness and fracturestrength) for the sintered samples were measured. The results show that the best YTZP additions to the B 4 C that have good mechanical properties were ranged 5 -7.5 wt%.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
