“…15 The association between intramuscular vitamin K refusal by parents and midwife-assisted deliveries was replicated by investigators in Michigan. 6 In a cross-sectional survey of mothers in the United States, investigators found that Regimens reported in European studies included 3-dose series of oral vitamin K (given at birth, either day 4 or week 1, and week 4), 61,63 multiple-dose series (at birth and then either daily or weekly until 3 months of age), 62,65 2-dose series (at birth and day 4), 66 and 4-dose series (at birth and at weeks 2, 4, and 6 [in breastfed neonates]). 64 The incidence of VKDB after oral vitamin K prophylaxis in these studies was up to 2.8 per 100 000.…”

“…Administration of phylloquinone at a pharmacological dose, either orally or by intramuscular injection, is usual practice for prevention of haemorrhagic disease in newborn infants (Clarke et al, 2006;Busfield et al, 2007;Strehle et al, 2010;Mihatsch et al, 2016). Oral pharmacological doses of MK-4 (2 mg at birth, and 4 mg at 1 week of age, n = 72,000) have been successfully used in newborns for prophylaxis of haemorrhagic diseases in Japan (Matsuzaka et al, 1987).…”

“…19 Several limitations in this study should be noted. Many expecting parents search for a pediatrician or family practitioner at this stage of pregnancy and seek information from professionals and the media (eg, popular media and the internet) toward the beginning of their role as parents.…”
