Evaluation of the 232Th Neutron Cross Sections between 4 keV and 140 keV

Abstract: An evaluation of the 232 Th neutron total and capture cross sections has been performed in the energy region between 4 keV and 140 keV. The evaluation results from a simultaneous analysis of capture, transmission, and selfindication measurement data, including the most recent capture cross-section data obtained at the GELINA facility of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements at Geel (B) and at the n-TOF facility at CERN (CH). The experimental data have been analysed in terms of average resonanc… Show more

“…These values compared favorably with the NDOMP04 values, which are 1.66 (2.55) and 1.90 (3.8) for neutron and proton databases, respectively. One can see that the χ 2 value is slightly increased for 238 U and decreased for 232 Th, probably because a new accurate Geel's group data [37] was used in the optical parameter search for the latter.…”

“…Additional average total cross-section data for 232 Th in the unresolved resonance region from 1 up to 140 keV were recently obtained by Geel's group [37]. The total cross-section data considered cover all the critical energy points that are necessary for revealing the structure that is due to the Ramsauer effect.…”

“…Additional average total cross-section data in the unresolved resonance region from 1 up to 140 keV were recently measured by IRMM's group [35]. Energy-averaged total cross sections σ T were obtained from Abfalterer et al [34] from 5 to 200 MeV.…”

“…Average total cross section data in the unresolved resonance region were derived by IRMM's group in 2004 [35]. These high-precision data together with earlier nucleon scattering angular distributions and low-energy observables (strength functions and scattering radius) are the database considered at positive energies.…”
