In the study, it is aimed to reveal the communication characteristics that teachers should have based on the views of the pre-service social studies teachers. Effective communication is important in terms of professional competence. The study was conducted with qualitative research method. A single holistic case study was used depending on the case study. The participants of the study are fifty-seven pre-service teachers attending the third grade of the social studies teaching program of a public university during the academic year of 2019-2020. Criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used to determine the participants. The criterion used in the study was that pre-service social studies teachers should have taken twelveweek human relations and communication course. Semi-structured interview was used as data collection method to obtain in-depth information regarding the research topic. Descriptive analysis was employed to examine the data obtained. The results of the study in order to communicate effectively, teachers must have the following five communication skills: effective use of body language, positive self-expression, active listening, being supportive, and don't appreciate. It has also been reported that teachers with effective communication skills should have the following communication characteristics: empathy, showing love, being cheerful, understanding and showing respect.
