Evaluation of specifically designed implants placed in the low-density jaw bones: A clinico-radiographical study

Abstract: Aim:In the less dense bone, it is difficult to obtain implant anchorage. The present study was undertaken to determine the survival rate of Maestro™ implants placed in d3 and d4 bones.Materials and Methods:Fourteen patients (10 males and 4 females) were selected for the study and implants were evaluated for posttreatment changes in at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months from implant placement. The implant probing depth and mobility were recorded 3 and 6 months after prosthesis placement. Also, peri-implant bone level was as… Show more

“…Observations were also made of different healing patterns and peri-implant bone-remodeling models. [293031] The alternative to implant drilling procedures in the posterior maxilla is the osteotome technique[27] that aims to compact the bone with the mechanical action of cylindrical instruments along the osteotomy walls. This procedure created trabecular fractures with debris, which caused an obstruction to the process of osseointegration.…”

“…Different healing patterns and periimplant bone remodeling models were also observed 16 , 17 between standard site preparation and undersized implant site preparation. Specifically designed implants for low-density bone were also developed 18 testifying the hardness of the challenge to reach a sufficient implant stability in poor bone density.…”

“…Besides, an implant diagnosed as a clinical failure is easier to describe than one that is a success. 8 The absence of smoking and bruxism was taken into account in our case during case selection as its detrimental to osseointegration right from early healing stage. 9 Recent scientific documentation regarding certain short-length implants 9 have presented to bypass the SFE necessitation and are predictable alternative, as well.…”

“…Implant stability is pivotal for OI and the determining factors are bone density, surgical protocol, and implant thread type, and geometry. 3,8 Furthermore, accomplishment of a direct bone to -implant interface is the ultimate goal in implant dentistry. 10 In fact, a 100% success was demonstrated on low density jaw bones previously, 8 by virtue of an increased bone-to-implant -contact (BIC).…”
