“…As such, it has been suggested that use of 1 mm cannulas for laser lipolysis results in less scarring and less trauma; 2 is associated with less blood loss, 3,4 edema, ecchymosis, 4 and pain, 5 and more rapid recovery; 6 and, most importantly, its associated neocollagenesis facilitates skin tightening. 2,[6][7][8][9][10] Heat is the most important stimulus generated by laser light used to target adipose tissue and skin for lipolysis and skin tightening. The mechanism of action of laser lipolysis is a purely thermal effect.…”

“…Although skin calipers were first used to measure the distance between tattoos, 13 DiBernardo also pioneered the use of Vectra 3D imaging in skin tightening assessment during his study of the SmartLipo device (Cynosure, Inc., Westfield, Massachusetts). 14 The upper arm is a difficult region to recontour successfully. Although some patients may be satisfied with mere reduction in size, most expect much more significant changes.…”

“…Another recent study examined the effects of 1064/1320 nm for skin tightening, with additional of laser on one side of the abdomen compared to liposuction alone on the contralateral side [42]. Ten subjects were included in this study to evaluate skin shrinkage through photographic imaging and measurement of temporary ink markings.…”
