The ejaculation and mounting times of a stallion, as well as the amount of time it takes for the stallion to respond to an oestrus mare, are all elements that might affect the libido of the horse. In order to gain an understanding of how tropical horses adapt to potentially difficult climatic circumstances in terms of their sexual performance, it is necessary to study their reproductive behaviour. The present investigation was carried out on six healthy Marwari stallions (aged between 50 to 140 months) to evaluate and to analyse their sexual behaviour during the breeding season in the arid region. The study was carried out for a period of three weeks and sexual behaviour parameters were recorded at the time of semen collection. Parameters observed and analysed in the present study include erection time, reaction time, ejaculation time, number of mounts and number of thrusts. Erection time, reaction time and ejaculation time of stallions was 19.02±1.18 sec, 29.11±1.37 sec, 26.86±0.95 sec, respectively. The number of mounts and number of thrusts of stallions was 1.39±0.09 and 10.00±0.17 respectively. The above study describes the normal sexual behaviour parameters of Marwari stallions in the arid region and analysed that non-significant (P>0.05) difference exists among the horses for various sexual behaviour parameters.

The mule is a sterile hybrid domestic animal that results from the breeding of a male donkey with a female horse, understanding the reproductive biology of these species is very critical. The goal of this paper was to perform a comparative and more accurate histomorphometric of the testicles in Barb horse, donkeys and mules. Microscopic examinations and histological description were carried on genital tract of horses, donkeys and mules healthy and mature; this study was conducted during April-May 2018. The histological and the morphological results shows a similarity between the two equine species and the infertile hybrid for the testicles, the epididymis and the vas deferens. However, the difference was presented on the morphometric data; vas deferens was more voluminous in the horse and donkey than a mule. Moreover, the differences were significantly higher for the surface of the seminiferous tubules and for the epididymis. The lumen of the seminiferous tubules in mule was significantly higher than in the horse and donkey. Absence of gametes in the epididymal cavity and lower number of gametes in the mule. Furthermore, we have noted the presence of spermatozoa in one mule 16.67%. Therefore, the mule could complete development of spermatogenesis.

BackgroundThe use of reproductive biotechnologies in equine practice has shown that some stallions are subfertile, so ways to improve fertility have been sought.ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the effect of nutraceutical supplementation on improving semen quality in Quarter Horse stallions.MethodsSemen from six Quarter Horse stallions was assessed for 4 months every 20 days using the computer‐assisted semen analysis system. They were evaluated for 60 days before supplementation; then, the same stallions were re‐evaluated for 60 days with nutraceutical supplementation (30 g/day).ResultsVolume showed no significant difference (p > 0.05) with nutraceuticals. Sperm concentration (10x6) was significantly higher with supplementation (339.4 ± 17.5 sperm/mL) than without supplementation (224.6 ± 19.9). Sperm abnormalities (%) were significantly (p < 0.05) lower with supplementation (14.3 ± 0.6) than without supplementation (19.1 ± 0.4). Sperm kinematic parameters, total motility (TM), progressive motility (PM), rectilinear velocity (VSL), the velocity of the trajectory (VAP) and curvilinear velocity (VCL), were significantly better with supplementation (p < 0.05).ConclusionsBased on the results, it is concluded that nutraceutical supplementation improved semen parameters in Quarter Horse stallions.
