Evaluation of serum vitamins A and E and zinc levels according to the severity of acne vulgaris

Abstract: Our study marks the importance of diet in patients with acne. We offer supportive dietary measures with foods rich in vitamin A and E and zinc in the acne prophylaxis and treatment. Supportive treatment with these vitamins and zinc in severe acne may lead to satisfactory results.

“…There was a negative correlation between acne severity and vitamin E and zinc levels. They offered supportive dietary measures with foods rich in vitamins A and E and zinc in the acne prophylaxis and treatment and stated that supportive treatment with these vitamins and zinc in severe acne may lead to satisfactory results [39]. These findings are inconsistent with results of our study.…”

“…The zinc levels in slight grades of female acne patients were also lower than control females and the levels in the affected males were lower than the control males [38]. Ozuguz et al [39] evaluated serum vitamins A and E and zinc levels in 94 acne patients and 56 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers as control group. All patients were assessed according to GAGS and grouped as mild, moderate, severe, and very severe.…”

“…When the LCL, ML, and VL groups were compared with the control group in terms of serum Zn level, it was statistically significantly lower in all the three groups than in the control group (p-values: < 0.01, < 0.01, < 0.001, respectively). In a study on the evaluation of serum Zn levels in patients with acne vulgaris by Özuğuz et al [12], serum Zn levels were found to be significantly lower in the acne group than in the control group (p < 0.001). Negative correlation was found between disease severity and serum Zn level.…”
