“…In this investigation, the result found for the ash content was from 0.352% (±0.09) to 0.526% (±0.49); similar studies report ash from 0.1% to 1.1% [58]. The volatile matter was from 82.892% (±0.08) to 90.882% (±0.38); similar studies report volatile matter in the order of 79.6 to 90.9% [59]. Finally, the fixed carbon was from 8.765% (±0.70) to 16.633% (±0.75); other studies report fixed carbon in the range from 9.10 to 20.44% [44].…”

“…A vertical orientation laboratory briquetting machine (LIPPEL ® , Agrolândia, Santa Catarina, Brazil) was used, which presents a solid base with a cylinder of 20 mm in diameter and an integrated thermostat that allows the temperature to be modified, two pistons that apply pressure and facilitate the briquette extraction. Each one was made with 200 cm 3 of the base material, and the operating conditions were 15 MPa of pressure, 90 °C of temperatures and five minutes pressure, similar to that developed by Zepeda-Cepeda [ 53 ] and Ramírez-Ramírez [ 54 ], for briquettes of 3.3 cm in diameter and 8.0 cm in length. Eight briquettes were made per treatment (granulometry) for subsequent analyzes.…”

“…One of the factors limiting the expansion of water treatment is the disposal of sewage sludge generated in the process [4]. This material is complex, rich in organic matter and nutrients containing a variety of chemical compounds and pathogens [5], and is found in solid, semi-solid, or liquid form depending on the moisture content [6,7].…”
