“…1993). Preliminary studies on the specificity of MI05 indicated that it reacted with serogroups A to E Salmonella, and that it did not react with a wide variety of different Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria with the exception of occasional strains of Enrerobacrer a,nglornerans (Todd et al 1991). However extensive studies with known serotypes in the higher 0 serogroups and subspecies I1 to VI Salmonella had not been carried out to affirm the usefulness of this reagent as a polyvalent anti-Salmonella antibody.…”

“…Conventional polyclonal antibodies to Salmonella not only show cross-reactions with other members of Enterobacteriaceae (Barber and Eylan 1979), but also do not necessarily react with all the serogroups of Salmonella. To overcome this difficulty, we have established hybridoma cell lines that produce MAbs which recognize Salmonella genus-specific epitope(s) (Tsang et al 1987 and1991); and such MAbs have been demonstrated to react with many different strains of Salmonella without giving significant false positive results (Todd et al 1991).…”

“…Boiling inactivates the bacterial culture for serological testing and at the same time exposes the cryptic core LPS epitope (Tsang et al 1987). Todd and colleagues (Todd et al 1991) tested 566 strains of Salmonella with MAb M105, and only 1 strain of serogroup 0 Salmonella was found to give false negative result. Amongst the Salmonella strains giving positive reactions with M 105 were 139 strains of serogroup B, 241 strains of serogroup C, 23 strains of serogroup D, 95 strains of serogroup E, 16 strains of serogroup G, 7 strains of serogroup K, 3 strains of serogroup L, 3 strains of serogroup N, 1 strain of serogroup 0, 24 strains of serogroup R, 2 strains of serogroup Z, and 11 strains that were either rough or belonged to S. arizonae.…”
