Aim: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the most used drugs for pain management, are among the most commonly prescribed drugs both in the world and in Turkey. NSAIDs have a serious side effect profile, and their inappropriate use can result in adverse outcomes, including mortality. This study aimed to determine consciousness level of drug use among patients who used oral NSAIDs for pain relief. Material and Method: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The universe of the study consisted of patients aged ≥18 years who presented to the Ankara City Hospital Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic at the end of 2019 for any reason who used at least one type of oral NSAID for pain relief. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Awareness was measured via a survey concerning knowledge and attitude, and knowledge and attitude scores were calculated for each participant. Significance was determined at a p<0.05 level. Results: There were 210 participants. The most used NSAID was diclofenac. The most common reasons for analgesics use were headache and musculoskeletal pain. Participants had poor knowledge of the diseases associated with NSAID use, and the most well-known diseases were stomach ulcer and bleeding and kidney failure. Participants' average knowledge scores were low, and average attitude scores were relatively higher. Women had significantly higher knowledge scores than men. Knowledge and attitude scores were positively associated with education and income status. Analgesics use was positively correlated with age and negatively correlated with attitude scores. Participants with chronic diseases had lower attitude scores than those without chronic diseases. Knowledge and attitude scores were positively correlated. Conclusion:We conclude that participants lacked knowledge about the general characteristics of and risks associated with NSAIDs, widely used, over-the-counter drugs that are found in almost every home. A more cost-effective, knowledgeable, and rational approach is required for NSAID use.

Unnecessary and improper medication use are problems that affect public health negatively. In our country, a significant portion of health expenditures is spent on medications. This study was aimed to evaluate the rational drug use knowledge and behaviors of students at Siirt University Health School. The study was carried out face to face with the participation of 568 students. The survey was carried out with the method of application under observation. The research population in which the questionnaire could be applied consisted of 980 students. Participation in the survey required volunteering. A questionnaire form was applied to students about their rational drug use information. Data were analyzed descriptively and independent T-test using SPSS 22. 0 package program. The students stated that they kept the residual drugs after the treatment in 51.6% to use when they were needed, and they kept the cold chain drugs at 58.3% on the cover of the refrigerator. When they wanted to use the drugs again, 34.1% do not want to take medicine if they are not ill. It is recorded that the painkillers are the first medicine to be found at home when it will be needed, the second is antibiotics and the 3rd is the ointments. 73.6% of the students do not use medication prescribed by the advice of their neighbors or relatives. 71.5% of the students said no to the question of if they recommend drugs to their relatives. 62.6% of the students stated that they did not use antibiotics and vitamins by themselves. 58.5% of the students learn the knowledge of medication use from the medication prospectus. 4.8% of the students accept the equivalent medications that were recommended by the pharmacist. It has been learned that students should increase their knowledge and behavior levels related to rational drug use. Wrong and unnecessary use of drugs can be prevented by explaining the side effects, active substances in drugs, and how they affect metabolism at the molecular level.

The main responsibility for the rational use of drugs (RUD) in children belongs to the parents. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge and awareness level of parents about RUD in children. The study included literate volunteer parents with no learning disability. The rational drug use scale (RDUS), developed by Demirtas, was modified to assess parents' knowledge about RUD in children (higher score indicates higher knowledge level). Questionnaires for which all questions were not answered were excluded from the study. Two-group differences (gender, employment status, health insurance) were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare the differences among three or more groups (age: ≤30, 30-40 and >40 years; education level: elementary, high school, associate degree and bachelor degree or higher; income: <2000 TL, 2000-5000TL and >5000 TL; number of children: 1, 2, 3 and ≥4). The study included 410 participants (mean age: 35±8.2; female: 58.3%). The mean scores obtained from the scale was 21.31 ± 4.1. Among females, the knowledge of RUD varied across education level (X2=32.333, p<0.001), income class (X2=16.096, p<0.001) and the number of children (X2=7.868, p=0.049). RDUS score was higher in employed females compared to non-employed females (U=2337.5, p<0.001). In male participants, the knowledge of RUD varied across education level (X2=32.130, p<0.001), income class (X2=16.893, p<0.001) and the number of children (X2=8.307, p=0.040). It was concluded that parents displayed incorrect attitudes and behavours regarding the use of drugs for in children.
