Evaluation of quality traits and their genetic variation in global collections ofBrassica napusL

Abstract: Evaluating quality traits is important to the selection of elite lines in Brassica napus L. In this study, the quality traits of 488 global collections of B. napus L were evaluated for two consecutive years under central Chinese growing conditions, and a series of phenotypic data was obtained. The measured total glucosinolate content (GLC) and erucic acid content (ERU) values for 95.5% of the accessions were consistent with the original values, and large variations in quality traits were found among these acce… Show more

“…The oil content, protein content, total glucosinolates content, ADF and NDF in winter rapeseed are traits determined by multiple genes that cause change in the performance of genotypes depending on the cultivation environment. That is why the importance of GE interactions in plant breeding programs have been a focus of attention for breeders (Golkari et al 2016;Nowosad et al 2016;Chen et al 2017). Genotype by environment interaction is an important and challenging issue for plant breeders especially in developing new improved varieties.…”

“…Positive association showed that these traits could be used for crop improvement. Quality traits evaluation is very important for selecting elite lines in Brassica napus as reported in 488 global collections (Chen et al 2018). Number of branches and number of pods were found to be positively associated with plant height, this indicated that as plant height increases it increases the branches and pods per plant ultimately it increases grain yield.…”

“…The presence of aliphatic compounds in the PCA results is highlighted by the coefficients, with numerous aliphatic GSLs making notable contributions to the principal components [ 68 ]. These findings underscore the diverse GSL profiles among Brassica species and the potential for targeted breeding efforts to enhance specific GSLs for improved agronomic and nutritional traits [ 34 , 67 , 69 ].…”
