Evaluation of plow system performance in long-wall mining method using particle flow code

Abstract: The underground or open-pit methods are used for the extraction of mineral resources, each of which is divided into different categories. Coal is one of the mineral resources, which is exploited either by the surface or the underground methods. The long-wall mining is one of the methods for the underground coal mining. In this method, which is a mechanized one, some machines such as the shearer or plow are used for the mining. The coal mine in Parvadeh, Tabas is a mechanized mine that is extracted by the long-… Show more

“…In the process of OPUG, the effects of underground and opencast mining are both mutual superimposition, forming a large dynamic composite system, so the deformation mechanisms of slopes and rock bodies are more complicated, and the slope already formed within the opencast mine will be affected by the disturbance of the underground mining. Settlement deformation and weak layer activation will continuously occur, posing a serious threat to the stability of the slope and safe production [13][14][15][16].…”

“…Therefore, cracks in the coal seam and their distribution characteristics have an important influence on the grouting effect. At present, the research on grouting engineering has mainly focused on the influence of grouting pressure, permeability coefficient, and other parameters on the grouting effect, while the influence mechanism of primary cracks in the coal mass on grouting has not been widely discussed (Kvartsberg and Fransson 2013;Cheng et al 2018;Bezuijen et al2011;Ajamzadeh et al 2019;Hu et al2019). In the present study, through the discrete element simulation method, the grouting process in soft coal seam was studied by microscopic simulation.…”

“…Hard coal is mined almost exclusively using longwall techniques based on longwall systems. Shearer (Krauze, 2010;Biały, 2016) and plow (Ajamzadeh et al, 2019) longwall systems are sets of machines that enable effective extraction of coal from seams. Such complexes are offered by many manufacturers and are widely used all over the world (Dyczko et al, 2020).…”
