Evaluation of Pesticide Contamination in the Water Sources of Southwest Parana Cities

Abstract: Currently, several researchers have been warning about problems caused by using pesticides in Brazil and in the World. Nevertheless, more and more of these compounds are used to control the integrity of crops. It is the case of most of the cities in Southwestern region of Paraná, a region that is mainly agricultural. The present study monitors 29 pesticides in water resources from five cities of the region. The method employed for determination was previously published, which is routinely applied at the labora… Show more

“…The contamination of the soil and water bodies by agricultural pesticides used in the SRB can be a major threat to water ecosystems and drinking water resources. In a context of limited natural resources, especially hydrological ones, the use of different indices to assess the potential for contamination of surface springs and groundwater contributes to the sustainable management of these agricultural resources (Pérez‐Lucas et al, 2019; Silva et al, 2021; Vale et al, 2015; Vieira et al, 2017).…”

“…Cabrera et al (2008) analyzed 28 samples from surface water courses in southeastern Brazil, detecting atrazine, penoxsulam, epoxiconazole, simazine, iprodione, malathion, fipronil, and tebuconazole. In the same region, Vieira et al (2017) evaluated the contamination by 29 pesticides in artesian wells and detected the presence of tebuconazole, atrazine, and 2,4-D.…”
