Evaluation of perilipin 2 and melanocortin 5 receptor serum levels with sebogenesis in acne vulgaris patients

Abstract: Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial disease. One of the main factors that plays a role in acne pathogenesis is an increase in sebum secretion. For sebum secretion, sebocyte differentiation followed by sebogenesis is essential. Sebocyte differentiation and proliferation, and sebum synthesis are controlled by complex pathways. Studies have shown that perilipin 2 and melanocortin 5 receptors play a role in sebogenesis. This study sought to determine whether levels of perilipin 2 and melanocortin 5 rec… Show more

“…64 It is noteworthy that the effects of psychosocial stress were not studied within the acne groups in this study. 64 Also, the proteins were being measured indirectly from blood samples, rather than from a skin sample and the sample sizes involved in the study were rather small. 64 1.8 | Alopecia, the HPA axis and psychodermatology CRF is recognized as an inhibitor of hair shaft production and it also is important in the premature stimulation of the catagen phase.…”

“…In contrast to MC3R and MC4R, studies on MC5R are very limited [ 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 , 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 ]. Moreover, the role of MC5R in energy metabolism has been rarely investigated.…”
