In our study, we wanted to evaluate the frequency of smoking in high school students, the related factors and the knowledge, attitude and behaviors of students about smoking. Material and Methods: High school students between the ages of 14-18 were included in the study. The data were gathered using the questionnaire method. The questions were about the sociodemographic characteristics of the students, their smoking status, whether there are individuals who smoke in the family, the knowledge level of the students about the harms of smoking, and their attitudes towards smoking. Results: The study was conducted with a total of 406 students, 187 (46.1%) girls and 219 (53.9%) boys. 16.3% of the student's smoke, 83.7% do not smoke, and 3% quitted smoking. As a result of paired comparisons; the smoking rate of students of the 9th grade was found to be significantly lower than the 10th, 11th and 12th grade (p=0.039; p=0.001; p<0.001). The smoking rate of 12th grade students was found to be statistically significantly higher than the 10th and 11th grades (p=0.001; p=0.024). 39.4% of the students started smoking due to social factors and 34.8% because of pleasure. The relationship between smoking status of the students and male gender, father's education status, smoking status of siblings and smoking status of close friends were found to be statistically significant (p<0.001, p=0.017, p<0.001 and p<0.001 respectively). Conclusion:It was found in our study that a certain percentage of high school students smoke and these rates increase from the 1st to the 4th grade.

Pharmacy Students' Knowledge and Attitudes about Homeopathy: A Descriptive Survey Conducted in Turkey

Background Homeopathy belongs to “Traditional and Complementary Medicine” (TCM) and is defined in the TCM regulation in Turkey as a holistic practice method that aims to improve health status with personalized medicines. The international and national literature includes a limited number of studies that examine individuals' knowledge, attitudes and behaviors toward homeopathy. Although in Turkey the Regulation on Pharmacists and Pharmacies states that the sale of homeopathic medicines is allowed only in pharmacies, no study was found that evaluated awareness about homeopathy among pharmacy students. Objective The present study aims to assess pharmacy students' knowledge and attitudes toward homeopathy and to identify the factors that influence them. Methods This descriptive study was conducted between December 1, 2021 and February 1, 2022 among the students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), through a face-to-face survey. In total, 418 questionnaires suitable for data quality were included in the study. The SPSS 23.0 statistical program was used to analyze the data and the statistical significance level was taken as p < 0.05. Results It was determined that 73% of the participants had heard about TCM practices and 55% had heard of homeopathy. Students in the fifth grade (p = 0.0001) and those working in an income-generating job (p = 0.026) were found to be those most aware of homeopathy. The students of the Faculty of Pharmacy correctly knew the basic working principles of homeopathy (p = 0.002). The source from which students obtained the most information about homeopathy was undergraduate courses. 80.4% of the participants thought that homeopathy should be applied by pharmacists. 47.0% of the students wanted to learn more about homeopathy or to carry out studies in the field of homeopathy in their careers. Conclusion The results of this research revealed a high awareness amongst KTU pharmacy students about the practice of homeopathy.

Amaç: Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi dönem 2 öğrencilerinin algılanan öğrenme düzeyleri, uyku kaliteleri ve içecek tüketimleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek.Gereç-Yöntem: Çalışmanın evrenini Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi dönem 2 öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın gerçekleştirildiği 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılında toplam 359 dönem 2 öğrencisi vardır. Öğrencilere, sosyodemografik bilgileri ve içecek tüketimi alışkanlıklarını sorgulayan sorularla beraber Algılanan Öğrenme Ölçeği'ni ve Pittsburgh Uyku Kalitesi Ölçeği'ni (PUKÖ) içeren anket formu uygulanmıştır. Algılanan Öğrenme Ölçeği'nde daha yüksek puanlar, algılanan öğrenmenin daha iyi olduğunu gösterirken Pittsburgh Uyku Kalite Ölçeği'nden alınan puan yükseldikçe uyku kalitesi kötüleşmektedir. Verilerin istatistikî analizi SPSS v.22.0 for Windows paket programında yapılmış, anlamlılık düzeyi 0.05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Evrenin %86.1'ine (N=309) ulaşılmıştır. Değerlendirmeye dâhil edilen 306 öğrencinin %16.3'ü (N=50) sigara kullanmakta, %71.5'i (N=218) her gün çay, %32.5'i (N=99) her gün kahve içmekte; %78.8'i (N=238) alkolü, %69.6'sı (N=211) enerji içeceklerini hiç tüketmemektedir. Öğrencilerin günlük uyku süreleri ortalama 7.24 ± 1.31 saattir.
