Background: The Library Management System (LMS) is crucial to the operations and performance of the library. Libraries around the world have automated their operations to provide relevant services to users and to move away from operating manually.Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of LMS on the provision of information in libraries of the local municipality of Rustenburg.Method: This was a quantitative study that examined the impact of LMS on information provision in libraries of the Rustenburg local municipality. The survey research design was adopted and data was collected using questionnaires.Results: The findings revealed that Rustenburg libraries depend highly on manual systems, which is a sign that they do not have adequate information and communication technologies. The few libraries that have online systems used them for circulation and are not maximising the full functions of the library.Conclusion: The study concludes that the local municipality of Rustenburg should provide funding to acquire information and communication technologies. Furthermore, it should adopt a library system in all libraries and train staff in all modules.Contribution: The LMS’s are crucial in the operations and performance of the library. Similar studies focused on the type of management systems available for use and how they can be managed. Having said that, most third world countries are still using manual systems, therefore this study takes the discussion further by looking at the impact that the lack of systems in the third world countries have on information provision in libraries.

This study investigated the factors for the development of electronic library in university libraries in Southern Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design with a population of 107 which comprised all the systems librarians, electronic librarians and digital librarians in the federal, state and private universities in Southern Nigeria. An online questionnaire using Google form was the main tool for data collection with a total of 107 librarians who responded appropriately. The study revealed that ICT tools, information resources and facilities were used for the development of e-library in university. The findings also showed that there was a general consensus among the respondents concerning ICT tools and resources that were used for the development of e-library such as: CD-ROM, wireless network, and interactive board, office and electrical equipment, information resources (e-book, e-journal, e-newspaper) and subscription to databases. The findings further revealed that funding, authentication, digital preservation process, copyright issues, training, and ease of access were challenges affecting the development of e-library in Nigeria. The researchers therefore recommended that universities, colleges of education and polytechnics in Nigeria should endeavor to develop its e-library by considering the findings in order to achieve its mandate of delivering quality information services to the library patrons.

The accessibility of special collections during the COVID-19 pandemic was a matter of concern for libraries and their users due to the specific nature of special collections compared to other information sources in libraries. This study therefore investigated the accessibility of special collections in university libraries in the South South zone of Nigeria during the COVID-19 pandemic. The population of the study included 233 librarians in federal, state and private universities in the zone. The study adopted an online questionnaire and there was a total of 197 respondents. The findings show that special collections were accessible to library users through library websites, institutional repositories, CD-ROMs and flash drives during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. The study reveals some of the challenges affecting the accessibility of special collections during the COVID-19 pandemic in university libraries in Nigeria and recommends ways of enhancing the accessibility of special collections during a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
