Evaluation of glutathione S‐transferase pi 1 expression and gene promoter methylation in Moroccan patients with urothelial bladder cancer

Abstract: BackgroundGlutathione S‐transferase pi 1 (GSTP1) is a cytosolic detoxifying enzyme that protects cells against deleterious effects of oxidative stress. Deregulated expression of GSTP1 protein and aberrant promoter methylation of GSTP1 gene were reported in various human tumors and were shown to be involved in the molecular pathway for cancer development.Aims and methodsIn this study, we aimed to determine the expression status of GSTP1 in relation to its gene promoter methylation in Moroccan population of 30 b… Show more

“…One of which is the polymorphisms in CYP2D6 and CYP1A1 that have been studied in Egypt and Tunisia ( 321 – 323 ) and that of CYP2D*1A , which was found to increase the risk and clinicopathological outcome of both transitional and squamous cell carcinomas in Egypt ( 322 ). Similar findings were reported in the same North African countries for individuals with GST null genotypes and NAT*5 (341T>C) ( 324 331 ).…”

“…Among these, Ccnd1 was concurrently enriched in Wnt and p53 signaling pathways. Both Mgst1 44 and Gstp1 45 have been demonstrated to exert important functions in oxidative stress and tumorigenesis. Gsta1 is a Phase II detoxification enzyme involved in the biological progression of colorectal, lung, prostate, and bladder cancer, 46 and the relationship between cancer and Gsta2, 47 Gsta5, 48 and Adh1 48 has been reported.…”
