Evaluation of Fatty Acid Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Eight Medicinal Plants from Kashmir

Abstract: The seeds of Abrus precatorius Linn., Amaranthus virdis Linn., Bunium persicum Boiss., Dioscorea deltoidea Wall. Ex Griseb., Malva neglecta Wall., Podophylum hexandrum Royle., Robina pseudoacacia Linn. and Teraxacum officinale Weber were used for fatty acid composition and antimicrobial activity. By GC-MS analysis, the petroleum extracts of seed were rich in oleic acid with 60.2%, 58.9% and 57.5% for A. precatorius, A. virdis and P. hexandrum respectively. Linoleic acid was dominant in M. neglecta 57.4%, T. of… Show more

“…The results of this assay are presented in Table 4. All most all the methanol and ethanol extract were showed significant Biofilm reduction as compared to negative control except for ethanol and methanol extract of Taza The Indian Tea ++ +++ DISCUSSION: Green tea is one of the most popular beverages worldwide due to its healthpromoting properties, which reflect the presence of antioxidants and also antimicrobial substances that are active against various Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria [12][13][14][15][16] . Both activities are mainly due to polyphenols, the most abundant of which is the catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), representing 50-80% of the total catechin content 17 .…”

“…Linoleic acid (C18:2) and eicosadienoic acid (C20:2) are a kind of polyunsaturated fatty acid that are present in the AAE. Linoleic acid has antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli [ 50 , 54 ]. Eicosadienoic acid methyl ester, another unsaturated fatty acid present in the AAE, also has antibacterial activity towards Gram-positive bacteria ( Bacillus subtilis, B. cereus, and Staphylococcus aureus ) and Gram-negative bacteria ( E. coli, P. aeruginosa , and S. typhi ) [ 55 ].…”
