Evaluation of Energy-Efficiency in Lighting Systems for Public Buildings

Abstract: Adoption of energy efficiency and conservation techniques in public buildings in Nigeria is significantly low due to the ignorance of its potential benefits. Consequently, this study presents the prospects of energy saving using different methods in a public building at a Nigerian University. A proposed remodelled students' residential hostel at the University of Lagos, Nigeria was chosen as a pilot study. This research utilized three energy efficient lighting technology alternatives namely; intelligent contro… Show more

“…Demand side management is the overall means of achieving energy management of the users' load. It includes energy efficiency, energy conservation, time of use, demand response, and spinning reserve ( Babayomi et al., 2020 ; Oluseyi et al., 2020 ). Incorporating a wide-scale energy efficiency program for energy users contributes to a more sustainable grid.…”

“…The aim of this present work is to develop an electrical system that automatically controls the working operation of electrical appliances within a house to maintain comfort, minimize the level of energy consumption and to save cost over a period time. This work combines both cloud technology and offline to achieve efficient energy management technique without any down time for user comfort which is absent in [16].…”

“…It is expressed that 56% of the energy consumed for lighting is being used in the buildings. When considered from this point of view, the requirement for the effective and efficient use of lighting energy arises [2]. Today, 35% of the electrical energy is consumed at lodgings, and in service sector.…”
