Evaluation of endoscopic hemostasis usingan improved clipping apparatus

Abstract: Endoscopic clipping hemostasis (ECH) is an effective method to control bleeding. However, ordinary clipping apparatuses have not been widely adopted because of several disadvantages. Accordingly, we developed an improved ECH apparatus that can be used during a general endoscopic examination without requiring an assistant. It is not only easy to operate but also ensures safe and effective hemostasis. The ECH apparatus was employed in 80 patients between February 1983 and August 1987 at the Sakura National Hospi… Show more

“…EHP is acceptable for treating bleeding lesions in nonfibrotic tissues and has advantages over other hemostatic methods because it rarely causes perforation [25] . It is effective in the management of bleeding from a Mallory-Weiss tear [18,19,26] .…”

“…In our group, six cases with active bleeding were given hemoclip application and all had excellent outcomes. Compared with other endoscopic treatments, such as sclerotherapy, epinephrine injection, and heater probe, the hemoclip is a safer choice, without adverse effects [12] . Dieulafoy's lesion, an important cause of potentially life-threatening GI bleeding, was first described in 1896 and is a submucosal artery protruding from a minute defective mucosa surrounded by normal tissue [13,14] .…”
