Evaluation of Eight Anthropometric Indices for Identification of Metabolic Syndrome in Adults with Diabetes

Abstract: Purpose: Several previous reports have highlighted the association between adiposity and risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Although it is necessary to identify which adiposity indices are best suited to identify MetS, no such study has been completed in diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of eight anthropometric indices to identify MetS in diabetic, middle-aged and elderly Chinese patients. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 906 type 2 diabetic pati… Show more

“…Many studies have investigated the association between MetS and obesity-related indices among different populations [ 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. However, no previous studies have investigated the relationship between obesity-related indices and BMD among hemodialysis (HD) patients with MetS.…”

“…However, BMI has been demonstrated to correlate well with fat mass and is considered a good indicator of general body composition. 34 Second, a more precise tool to assess LUTS/BPH is IPSS. Since the questionnaire of the CHARLS study did not include IPSS, we were not able to assess LUTS/BPH and its severity by this tool.…”

“…First, while we used BMI to classify obesity, this method cannot perfectly represent obesity because it does not differentiate fat tissue from lean tissue. However, BMI has been demonstrated to correlate well with fat mass and is considered a good indicator of general body composition 34 . Second, a more precise tool to assess LUTS/BPH is IPSS.…”

“…Erişkin Tedavi Paneli NCEP ATP III kriterleri kullanıldığında PURE çalışması ile benzer oranlar (toplam: %49,9; erkek: %45,1; kadın: %54,5) rapor edilmiştir 4 . Erken tanı MetS ile mücadelede uygun eylemler yapmak için önem arz etmektedir 5 .…”
