Evaluation of Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oil of Eshvark (Rhazya stricta) Against Two Strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes

Abstract: Background: Many diseases are often caused by bacteria, including those caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. Staphylococcus aureus has a hospital infection source and can cause simple skin diseases such as rashes, as well as more severe diseases, such as pneumonia and meningitis. Listeria monocytogenes has an environmental source, such as water, soil and food, and attacks the central nervous system and causes neurological symptoms, even leading to death. Objectives: This study aimed at e… Show more

“…The AgNPs biosynthesized from the methanolic extract of the R. stricta root showed an inhibitory effect against B. subtilis and E. coli [ 19 ]. Different strains of S. aureus and Listeria monocytogenes were sensitive to the treatment with 5–10 mg/mL of the essential oil of R. stricta, in the study conducted in Zabol, Iran [ 50 ]. Finally, a previous study from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reported that the methanolic extract of R. stricta had an inhibitory effect on the growth of E. coli (8.0 ± 1.0 mm), S. aureus (15.3 ± 0.5 mm), and C. albicans (19.3 ± 0.58 mm) [ 51 ].…”
