Evaluation of a Porous Hydroxyapatite Granule and Gelatin Hydrogel Microsphere Composite in Bone Regeneration

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the property of hydroxyapatite (HA)/gelatin hydrogel (GH) composite granules as a scaffold and controlled-release carrier of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) for bone regeneration. HA granules and GH microsphere at various weight ratios to the HA granules were mixed. The composite provided the controlled release of bFGF in vitro. The critical-sized bone defects of 6 mm diameter were created in the skull of New Zealand white rabbits and the composite granules wi… Show more

“…Биокомпозитный материал на основе желатина и β-TCP продемонстрировал улучшенную биоразлагаемость под воздействием коллагеназы при большем количестве желатина и высокую остеоиндуктивность, выраженную в повышении уровня активности щелочной фосфатазы in vitro [108].…”

“…However, bFGF has an extremely short half-life in vivo (more than 80% of the bFGF injected subcutaneously was eliminated from the injected site within 24 hours [10]). We therefore focused on gelatin hydrogel as a representative drug delivery system [11]. This carrier allows controlled release of incorporated growth factors over a long period of time [1214].…”
