Evaluation of a New Website Design for Iwantthekit for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomonas Screening

Abstract: The www.iwantthekit.org provides Internet-based, at-home sexually-transmitted infection screening. The website implemented an automated test result- access system. To evaluate potential deleterious effects of the new system, we analyzed demographics, website-usage, and treatment. The post-website design captured more participant information and no decrease in requests, kit return, or treatment adherence.

“…Home testing has shown promise as a mechanism to increase chlamydia screening in other settings, 17, 18 and an Internet-based test ordering system has been implemented in at least one other native community. 7 However, some findings from our survey suggest that a screening program with a significant Internet-based component could be challenging in this community.…”

“…21 A well-established program in Maryland and Washington DC that offers free mail-in testing for CT, GC, and trichomonas tested 858 specimens during 6 months in 2012. 22 A survey of young adults found 93% thought self-tests were a “good idea”, 73% thought people their age would use the tests, and they expected to pay an average of $23 per test. 23 How many will actually purchase and use a real self-test remains to be seen.…”
