Abstract:The human capsular bag model employed allows short-term evaluation of secondary cataract formation for different IOLs. This model's correlation with clinical results is good.
“…However, in IOL implantation, contact between the anterior and posterior capsules is desirable to be able to study the effect of IOL designs on LEC migration. In their model, Liekfeld et al 18 used 6 to 8 entomological pins through the edge of the capsular bag to provide maximum contact between the posterior capsule and the posterior IOL surface.…”
The CTR-supported in vitro PCO model offers a physiological method to support the lens capsule and is a reproducible system for the study of LEC proliferation.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
