Évaluation de la composition spécifique des glossines, vectrices de la Trypanosomose Humaine Africaine, dans la région de Ndendé au sud du Gabon

Abstract: Objectives : In order to assess the species composition of tsetse flies among savannah and forested biotopes, an entomological survey was conducted on these insects in the Ndende region (province of Ngounié), ancient focus of Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) for identifying the potential sites of the HAT transmission. Methodology and results: A total of 14 Vavoua traps was used with 7 traps installed along the rivers present in the forest gallery and 7 others in the savannah near the villages. The study was… Show more

“…The striking fact in our study is the total absence of tsetse flies (Glossina spp) in our inventory despite the use in the field of Vavoua traps which are more suitable for their capture (Koumba et al, 2018). This absence of tsetse flies in our sampling may be linked to the existence in the field of several works aimed at eradicating the tsetse fly (Mouchet et al, 1961) and programs for the control of clean vectors or biological vectors of trypanosomes in Cameroon sometimes including the Central African sub-region.…”

“…In Gabon, inventories on the species composition, abundance and diversity of vectors of HAT in protected areas and its environs have been documented [6,7,8,9,10]. Little information exists on infection rates of glossines with human and bovine trypanosomes in Gabon [11,12,13].…”

“…These diseases caused by Trypanosomatidae belong to the group of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), occurring in developing areas 2 . Sub-Saharan African countries suffer from a significant impact of NTDs on public health and economic development 3 . Glossina palpalis gambiensis (Vanderplank, 1949) is one of the main vectors of the HAT parasite in West Africa and is responsible for the persistence of many residual outbreaks of this disease in forest and savannah areas 4 .…”
