Evaluating the reliability of NAND multiplexing with PRISM

Abstract: Abstract-Probabilistic-model checking is a formal verification technique for analyzing the reliability and performance of systems exhibiting stochastic behavior. In this paper, we demonstrate the applicability of this approach and, in particular, the probabilistic-model-checking tool PRISM to the evaluation of reliability and redundancy of defect-tolerant systems in the field of computer-aided design. We illustrate the technique with an example due to von Neumann, namely NAND multiplexing. We show how, having … Show more

“…Probabilistic model checking has been applied to analyze the circuit reliability at the logic gate and block levels [16], [17]. Like traditional model checking, probabilistic model checking involves the construction of a precise state-based mathematical model of the given random system, which is then subjected to exhaustive analysis to verify if it satisfies a set of reliability properties formally expressed in temporal logic.…”

“…In [40,41] PMC is used to evaluate the reliability of small circuits assuming that each gate fails independently. Circuits are specified as DTMCs, due to their suitability for modeling digital systems [12].…”

“…The main problem of this method is its inapplicability to large circuit and large number of input vectors. References [10][11][12][13][14] have introduced analytical methods based on Discrete Time Markov Chains (DTMC) and Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs). The reliability analysis based on signal probability can be found in references [15][16][17][18][19].…”
